Teaching kids about money, personal finance, allowances, and starting their own businesses.

Recognizing the gap in financial literacy within the current educational curriculum, an opportunity arose to equip our children with essential skills and knowledge for adulthood. A curriculum aligned with Common Core standards was developed, and an accompanying assessment platform was designed. This platform now empowers grade school students to enhance their learning skills, enabling them to thrive in today's world.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS

THE USER

This was an opportunity to help today’s children by engaging them driving skills and education.

My approach:

  • Design interactive components capturing important information

  • Narrow down the color palette but make sure to use a bright color that adds more pop to the design

  • Straight lines, square containers and a tight grid reduced the user’s cognitive load while learning

EDUCATION

Focus and highlight all the ways money is incorporated in everyday life. Illustrations would help user identify with scenarios and lessons.

My approach:

  • Emphasize a clear path by through design hierarchy

  • Incorporate delightful illustrations as the user progresses through the curriculum

  • Design accessible and clear activity pages

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Accessibility was the highest priority for this project, so making sure contrast ratios, text, form field labels, and other design details met AA or AAA WCAG standards was key.

  • Involving content creators/editors early in the design process in order to plan accordingly helped move the project along.

  • Maintaining the UI kit & component sheet (design system) for the front-end developer throughout the project helped keep all elements consistent and aided in a smooth transition into the implementation phase.
